I love travelling so it seems natural to share our adventures on the blog. I’m always on the lookout for family friendly trips. I thought I would share our babymoon with you today though. I have actually written about our trip to A Corner of Eden before and I still feel like I want to keep it a secret but it really is too nice not to share. If you are looking for somewhere romantic whether it is for a babymoon, proposal or honeymoon the Sheperd’s Cottage at A Corner of Eden is a sensation choice!

There are in fact 3 luxury self-catering cottages nestled in this countryside haven if you are looking for somewhere for a group holiday too, The Farmhouse sleeps 8 and The Angel Barn sleeps 6.
We chose to take our babymoon in January as we had just had our 20 week scan and it seemed the best time as I was no longer nauseous but not yet the size of a house. Having gone through IVF to start our family and experiencing a terrifying scare early on I was on the lookout for a staycation kind of babymoon as I was not prepared to take any risks with anything more adventurous and for us it was the best decision.
Situated in the Eden Valley and close to the Lake District we quickly settled on the Shepherd’s Cottage which sleeps two but also has a secret little room for those with a child and I am desperate to go back with our daughter!
Due to our hectic lifestyles, (of course we now know what hectic really means!) we arrived in the wee hours of the morning and just moments after we got all our bags inside we looked out the window, feet warming by the heat of the AGA and watched as it started to snow. In that moment I knew we would always treasure this holiday. I still fantasise about popping downstairs in the morning in my comfy dressing gown to heat the kettle on the AGA and peer outside to spot the sheep and enjoy the peaceful silence.
Our cottage came stocked with a welcome hamper including fresh bread, a delicious homemade cake (it didn’t last long!), bubbly, local chocolates and more. The decanter of homemade sloe gin was a fantastic personal touch but since I could only sniff it I need to go back to try it! If you ever need a tipple though there is a well stocked honesty bar in the pantry! We made some fantastic cooked breakfasts on the AGA and I really think its the best way to cook a good Cumberland sausage! Am I banging on about the AGA?! I absolutely loved it after my initial panic that we didn’t know how to use it.
We were lucky to have set aside a week giving us time to explore Wild Boar Fell (just walk out the front door!), make friends with the sheep and walk over to the local pub as well as taking a couple trips over to the Lake District. We had sunny walks at the beginning of the week and then incredible snow at the end of the week meaning we got to make the most of curling up by the log fire.
Everywhere you turn there is something special, from the exquisite bed, handmade by Richard, to the large roll top bath surrounded by candles. I personally loved, the dressing area equipped with vanity table and large mirror!
We had a magical time in the Shepherd’s cottage, we felt so tucked away in our own little world. It was the perfect place to make plans, take time out and look forward to our baby’s arrival. I have been following them closely and they have made some wonderful changes including intererior and exterior updates to the Farmhouse so I’m hoping to get a group together for another trip, between you and me it looks like an Instagramer’s dream! For a peek inside and to get a real feel for the beauty of the place see their gallery.
Our top tips for to-dos while you visit are,
Visit a Lake – so many lakes, so little time but we suspect all of them are worth a visit at some point and the Lake Districts is a huge part of the Cumbrian region.
Take A Walk– I can’t think of many places in the UK that offers such extensive walking options, clearly marked paths and a Public Footpath sign at every turn!
Get your Lakeland fix – This should have been obvious but I didn’t realise the shop Lakeland started in the Lake District and has a large shop in Windermere!
Where did you babymoon? Where are your romantic hot spots in the UK? I would love to hear your suggestions!
